What is the meaning of life?

Try asking this question to anyone regardless of the difference in age, background, religion, gender and nationality. The answer will most likely be a singular or combination from one of the answers listed below:

Family, marriage, friends, success, love, world peace, politics, God, religion, spirituality, happiness, fun, freedom, compassionate living, kindness, sharing, playing, moderation, Nirvana, enlightenment, positive living, work, career, sports, balance in life, travel, exploring, continuous improvement, money, health, material wealth, peace of mind, learning, wisdom, procreate, children, education, soul mate/life partner, knowledge, truth, and new experience.

Some other longer answers:

  • Set goals and live a purposeful life, then you will find the meaning of life.
  • Life comes from birth and death. Perhaps, one may find the answer from birth and death.
  • Finding the meaning of life itself is the meaning of life.
  • Live in the present moment, NOW is the most important moment. Forget about the meaning of life.
  • There is no such thing as meaning of life; everything that exists is what it is.
  • Our human mind is still evolving to understand the purpose of the universe. Life on earth is just a small speck in this “big” universe. One will not be able to answer this question until the whole truth of universe is uncovered.
  • Everything is meaningless, a chasing after the wind – Ecclesiastes
  • The meaning of life is contained in every single expression of life. It is present in the infinity forms and phenomena that exist in all of creation. – Michael Jackson

You will find that all of the above answers are “valid” answers. The list could be endless. Humans are subjected to the limitation of the six senses; eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, mind. Within each of these senses, there is a limit to how humans can see, hear, smell, taste, touch and think. Whatever answers they may be, they are still subject to limitations. Personally, I have no answer to this age old question. I contemplated on it for many years, like a hamster on the running wheel. Finally, I asked myself in year 2009, is it really important to know the meaning of life? It is an abstract question and no, it is not important. What matters to me now is how to live life.

The purpose of this article is to open up your mind, so that you may be a step closer to whatever you are seeking or not seeking in life.
